Revenants #1 Die For Me

An eye-catching and an attractive cover, definitely not like twilight at all....read on I'll explain what I'm saying. Presenting Revenants #1 Die For Me by Amy Plum.

Here is the summary of the book:

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity. When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent. Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

This was sitting on my to-be-read pile since it came out but I though why not just buy it and see what the deal was because a lot of reviewers said that it was a twilight rip-off and frankly i'm sick of those sparkly vampires....so now that I have read it I can tell you all it definitely is not like Twilight at all....read on why and how.

Kate and her sister Georgina lost both their parents in a car accident and have moved to Paris with their grandparents, for a much needed change of air and also to try and move on from their griefs. Loosing their parents and coping is proving a bit difficult for Kate who has closed off herself completely from the world but there in she finds her distraction in the form of tall, dark and handsome Vincent. While his antics and his Paris-y romantic attitude proves a great distraction and Kate definitely can't seem to not think about him but there is something else about his demeanor, underneath all the cheery attitude lies a big secret that he is hiding. Will Kate still love him when she finds out about what he is or will she rationalize it and stay away. There is one thing for sure Paris definitely proved to be a distraction for her.

Die for Me proved to be a very easy read, I actually finished it in one sitting. The characters are definitely well laid out and believable. Kate with her grief and the burgeoning love for Vincent who is a revenant (one who come back after they die...no not vampires or zombies); and Vincent with his impulses to save people's life form an unlikely and a very lovable pair....there chemistry is very palpable. The plot is also well layered and precise (again not like Twilight where a single thing needs to be explained in hundreds of pages). The only problem I had was with the revenant laws which were a bit confusing to say the least but it all pays well with a fitting battles and a beautiful conclusion. Great job by Amy Plum. I am definitely on board for this next book.
