Crusher

Really expected a lot more from this. Presenting Crusher by Niall Leonard.

Here is the summary of the book:

To catch a killer,Finn Maguire may have to become one....Everything changed the day Finn found his father in a pool of blood, bludgeoned to death. His dull, dreary life is turned upside downas he become's the prime suspect. How can he clear his name and find out who hated his dad enough to kill him? Facing danger at every turn, uncovering dark family secrets and braving the seedy London underworld,Finn is about to discover that only the people you trust can really hurt you..

So, I got this book from the publisher for an honest review. And let me tell you....it was an okayish sort of book. Its thriller, has got this worthy-amazing cover that the mood well and the premise and the action from the synopsis sounds very exciting. The lead character comes home one day to find out his dad is murdered and he is a suspect. So, to clear out his name and find out who did the deed, Finn takes matters into his hands. Sounds very interesting don't you think? To my greatest disappointment though this book majorly falls short of the thriller element of things here.

Come to think, I did a little research and found Niall Leonard is the husband of E.L. James (50 Shades trilogy). I did not like her and I did not like 50 Shades, its as simple as that but I actually had high hopes with Leonard's debut and it didn't cut across. I also heard this was a NaNoMoWri product and....it needs a rewrite. The investigation is in no way interesting. Almost throughout the whole of the book Finn is either working, working, working or planning his dad's funeral, doing the mundane of things then right you go, he stumbles upon a trial that might lead to his father's murderer........nah that is totally not how you expect a thriller/suspense book to go by.

The characters also had absolutely no depth at all. The segment with the crime lord felt like just a simple scene put there to keep a dragging story going. Then there is the clue searching part, it is rather put straight forward than I would have actually liked in a thriller/suspense genre. Felt very annoying there. But I still kept at it expecting some good stuffs to reveal soon. Turned out pretty decent though, I still feel this book to be almost like a draft that needs at least one or two polishes.

"Needs work -- Needs lots of work --- Expected more from this"
